Torito
Torito is a conceptual toaster oven developed for a mimicry-based design exploration. Inspired by the Memphis design movement, the project reimagines a common household appliance through playful form language, vibrant color, and precise digital modeling. The outcome reflects a balance between expressive aesthetics and structured rendering practice, aligning with the project’s emphasis on visual accuracy and design translation.
The design process for Orito began with close observation and analysis of Memphis design precedents to understand the movement’s distinct visual language—bold geometry, exaggerated proportions, contrasting colors, and a playful attitude toward form and function.
I then moved into ideation, developing the toaster’s overall body along with detailed elements like the handle and control knobs. Rendering played a crucial role in capturing the spirit of Memphis, as the design's success relies not only on form but also on expressive color, material, and finish. These elements work together to convey a sense of irony, joy, and sculptural presence that defines the movement.
